Waitemata District Health Board
The Elective Surgery Centre (ESC) is dedicated solely to providing elective (non-urgent) surgical procedures to patients through the Waitemata DHB area.
Opened by the Minister of Health, Hon. Tony Ryall on 11 July 2013, the purpose-built ESC is one of the most medically advanced facilities in New Zealand and contains:
- Four operating theatres
- A post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU)
- A theatre sterile supply unit
- 40 inpatient beds
- 10 consulting rooms
- A public cafe
- A shorter patient journey
The ESC is designed to reduce the patient waiting times for elective surgery and ensure a more efficient service for patients. A number of resources have been developed to support the ESC patient journey including brochures and DVDs.
